The team sent 29 swimmers to the Star Short Course Invitational held December 2nd through the 5th at ECC’s Flickinger Aquatic Center. This was the second “Championship” formatted meet this season and another opportunity to learn from the preliminary swims and apply it to finals! The Titans did fantastic against some of the best teams from all over the east coast. Swimmers from Levels 3 to Level 8 endured the ICY waters of ECC keeping warm with the efforts they put into their swims. There were two sessions of preliminary...
Our Titan team has been lucky enough to have a great history of coaches that just know how to capture the attention and passion for the sport in some of our littlest teammates. Not everyone has the patience to continuously remind swimmers how to squash the tomato or the best way to perfect their peanut butter and jelly stroke during a Balloon Meet. Lucky for us, our next spotlight happens to be one of them: Samantha Maiarana Coach Sam started coaching for Titans in 2009 and was the Stroke Development...
The Titans traveled to Ohio for the Mark J. Braun Fall Classic the weekend of November 19th, 20th & 21st. This was a “Cut Time” meet, meaning the swimmers had to achieve certain time standards to enter. All the swimmers who made the trip were able to participate in an extremely fast meet, seeing some truly amazing races, as well as putting in a bunch of our own. The meet played host to over 50 teams and well over 800 athletes, all swimming at a very high level. The Titans...
You’re not seeing double with this post, say hello to Lexi and Grace Fredricks! These Grand Island girls always loved the water and after swimming for St. Stephen’s in 8th grade, they joined the Titans Swim Club to further pursue their swimming goals. That seemed to spark their capabilities in the pool because while they attended Mount Saint Mary Academy and swam on their team, they broke school records, won races, earned All-Catholic medals and championships. You can still see their All-Catholic achievement posters hanging throughout MSM’s sports hallway. After...
The Titans traveled to Downtown Buffalo to compete in the Canadian – American Challenge at ECC’s Flickinger Aquatic Center. Forty-two Titans from Levels 1 to 8 put in some fantastic efforts in the slightly “cooler than we are used” to pool. This meet spanned three days and saw swims in events ranging from the 25 free to the 1000 free! Great swims, supportive teammates, and some fun were on display all weekend. Level 1 had a small but mighty turnout with one swimmer at the Canadian- American Challenge and was...
The Town of Tonawanda Titans hosted the Halloween Meet the weekend of October 29th to the 31st at the Aquatic and Fitness Center. We saw 9 Teams pulling together 300 plus swimmers throughout the weekend! It was amazing to see this again and a fantastic opportunity to compete against some amazing swimmers. We had a total of 103 Titans in attendance piling up best times, new swims, great relays, and some super team support! Thank you to all the volunteers who worked so hard all weekend to make it a...
It’s time to spotlight another group of Titan alumni swimmers, all from the same family. Andrew, Matthew and Megan are three out the 5 five swimmers in their family that shared some of their best swim memories and achievements with us. Andrew Marsh Andrew attended Jamestown Highschool and then continued on to attend West Virginia University. His impressive swim career only excelled as he transitioned from high school to college. His senior at West Virginia competing in the Big XII Conference Championship, Andrew took 1st place in the 100 yard...
We’d like to introduce you to former Titans coach, Matt Gianottis. Matt joined Titans as a coach in the early 90’s. His experience as a team swimmer combined with his talented coaching skills helped our swimmers become truly amazing athletes in the water. Matt grew up in Willow Ridge, went to Willow Ridge Elementary, where he started swimming at age six with the Sweet Home Swim Club. His very first swim coach was Debbie Tatar at the Sweet Home Junior High School and then the incomparable Coach Steve Myers. He...
You’ve seen her swim for Amherst High School, you’ve seen her swim for Titans, you’ve seen her lifeguarding at the AFC and now you can see her swimming for Canisius College. The first time Carolyn started swimming was her freshman year at Amherst. Not only did she love to swim, but she was also a natural in the pool. With the encouragement of her coach, she tried out for Titans and joined as a level 5 swimmer. She quickly moved up levels as her skills and strokes improved. Carolyn now...
Ten years is a long time to dedicate to anything. Especially when you are engaging and mentoring young people, spearheading key initiatives that expand beyond your team, and simultaneously managing multiple areas of responsibility. We are forever grateful that we can say we had someone in our Titan family that did just that and so much more. This week's spotlight is our very own Titan alumni, OG administrative official, and former coach: Randall Snodgrass Even though swimming is undeniably part of his DNA, Randall did not formally start his journey...
