The 2019 Niagara Championship Qualifier Meet was yet another amazing event hosted by the Titans.
We had 533 athletes, 26 teams, over 70 coaches, and a ton of spectators in and out of the Aquatic Center over the three day event. The Town of Tonawanda AFC staff were a great and really came through when the weather presented itself on Sunday. We are truly appreciative for all that the Town did for us! Thanks to all who volunteered/donated and to all our swimmers that not only competed but filled in empty volunteer slots in our late addition afternoon session! It was unfortunate that we had to rely on the swimmers of families already way over the minimum requirement for volunteering for our team to make this happen and hope that all of us realize doing the minimum is a sure way to get the minimum out of life…. and not what being a Titan is all about! On the positive side we had 5 brave and talented Titans perform the National anthem for us at meet and want to say thanks again to Karynn Clouser, Madison Fragale, Madelyne Kamens, Claire Malkiewicz, and Heather Malkiewicz! In the pool the team absolutely crushed it this weekend! We won the meet by over 600 points hand Brady Garcia take home the 11-12 boys high point, saw the team pull together 58 NI Championship cuts, 273 new personal bests, and a ton of great racing to build on!
Level 2 sent two swimmers to the meet. Isaac King and Owen Scibetta both did a great job and we are so proud of them. Isaac dropped 4 seconds in his 100 back and 1 second in his 50 back and Owen dropped time in both his 50 back and 50 free. Both boys have been working on their flip turns and stroke technique and we think their hard work paid off! Way to go Isaac and Owen!
Level 3 had 5 swimmers attend this meet. Andre Charlier, Keira Curvin, Reese Marcyan, Jayla Mercurio, and Madison Scarpace all did an awesome job representing our level. We were able to collect a total of 10 new best times and some great racing experience! We are so proud of these 5 swimmers and can’t wait to watch them continue to progress. Awesome job level 3!
Level 4 sent a great group to the meet with 8 of them pulling together 27 personal bests, 9 Champ cuts, and chipped in on 9 relays helping with those team point totals! Everyone had multiple best times and really showed off their efforts from practice with great racing. Congratulations to all!
Level 5 showed up ready to swim fast this past weekend. We had a total of 10 swimmers representing this level. We were able to collect 15 new NI Championship cut times and 51 new best times! Everyone finished the meet with multiple best times, which is always great to see. We are starting to apply everything we have been focusing on at practice to our races, really emphasizing on not breathing off our walls and into our finishes. Great job level 5 and congratulations on an awesome meet!
Level 6 had 12 swimmers split up between the 2 preliminary sessions and they got another lesson in how work at practice translates into performances at meets! 52 new personal bests times, 11 more NI Champs cuts, a High Point winner with Brady Garcia bringing home the honor, a phenomenal swim off victory by Tommy Baxter in the 100 free, a bunch of great relays, as well as a TON of finals swims. We were happy to see so many of these great swimmers performing great in and out of the pool. Way to go!
Level 7-8 showed up to compete. With nearly 125 personal best and 20 new NI championship cut times the group was ready to go. Maren Drew, Maddy Fragale, Alex Switalski, Fina Bell, Lauren Levy, Maya Marcyan, Abby Gioia, Lily Dimmig, Veronica Bargnesi, Sam Baxter, Connor Morrissey, Kristiana Clouser, and Paul Wissel all achieved new NI qualifying times. Good luck to the Boys heading to state this weekend in Long Island!!
